The website planning checklist.

The same discovery questions the studio walks every client through before a build: goals, pages, content, timeline. Work through it and the first call is about the work.

On the page

What it asks you to gather.

  1. The one job. Calls, bookings, sales, credibility, or leads. Pick the first one; the site is built around it.
  2. Six months from now. If the site worked, what happened? One sentence.
  3. Who it is for. Your ideal customer, and the two or three things they need to know before they call.
  4. The pages. Home, about, services, contact is four. A gallery, a menu, reviews, or a booking page each add one.
  5. The words. What you have written already, what needs writing, and who is writing it.
  6. The photos and the logo. What exists, in what quality, and what is missing.
  7. The domain. Do you own it, where is it registered, and who has the login.
  8. The current site. If there is one, its address, and what you like and do not like about it.
  9. The deadline. A date, and why that date.
  10. Three sites you like. Any field. It tells us more than adjectives do.
